"Moreau Day" Celebration
January 19, 2008
On January 19, 2008 the Sisters of Holy Cross, along with Holy Cross Companions and Associates, gathered to celebrate "Moreau Day," a time set aside to honor our founder Blessed Basile Moreau, who was beatified in Le Mans, France on September 15, 2007.
The process leading up to the beatification of our founder was one of much anticipation. The excitement of all the events was present on January 19th as we began the day with an Opening Prayer, along with a warm welcome from our Regional Animator, Sr. Carol Descoteaux.
The hall was decorated for this festive occasion with a large picture of Blessed Basile Moreau as well as a banner depicting a tree rooted in the world representing the three branches of the Holy Cross Family: Sisters, Priests, and Brothers. This banner is being used throughout the Congregation as the symbol for our new Inter-regional Groups which have replaces the Apostolic Units.
Sr. Doris Gagnon, Community Director and a member of the Congregational Commission, spent a good part of the day explaining the new groups: their purpose, process, and functioning.
The Regional members were give a leaf on which was written their name and the Apostolic Orientation they felt called to. Those whose health or other situations did not permit them to be Active members were encouraged to choose a group to which they would belong as a support in whatever
capacity
they could. Sr. Doris then invited the Assembly to come and place their leaf on the branches of the tree.
The day offered a wonderful occasion to share important information, to partake in discussions, to enjoy a festive meal together and to renew bonds of friendship.
The afternoon culminated in a beautiful Eucharistic celebration during which Alicia Finn and Charlene Lavoie pronounced their first Promises as Companions of Holy Cross (see Companions page for more information and pictures)
